建筑上使用的鋁板包括單層鋁板、復合鋁板等多種材料，一般常常指單層鋁板（也有叫單鋁板或純鋁板），多用于建筑裝飾工程中，近年來在鋁板幕墻中單層鋁板使用的較為多見。鋁板幕墻也是幕墻的一種形式，簡單地說是用鋁板代替玻璃制成幕墻，鋁板幕墻多用于作墻體蔽護和不采光的墻壁。

國外的鋁板幕墻一直選用單層鋁板。單層鋁板一般用純鋁板。鋁板厚度為3mm，為了加強鋁板板面強度，在鋁板的背面，必須安裝加強筋(現有的廠家不安)，加強筋用厚的鋁帶做成，先用閃光焊機把一顆顆螺絲帽焊在鋁板背面然后把作加強筋的鋁條鉆孔套進螺絲內，用螺絲固定。

幕墻鋁板表面處理，可分為二種方法，一種是陽極氧化，另一種是靜電噴涂。陽極氧化的氧化膜一般在12μ以上，顏色只有古銅色和白色兩種，顏色單調，更為嚴重的缺點是每塊鋁板板面的顏色深淺不一，許多塊幕墻板組合在一起形成一個幕墻整體效果非常難看。這個缺點可以說無法消除，并非生產技術造成的，而是由于鋁板并非是由一批號，化學成份，均有小的差別，再加上氧化時電解槽液電流密度等因素均無法完全一樣，所以氧化后的顏色多少均有差異，單張看可能不明顯，若都排在一起即非常明顯。所以鋁板幕墻的鋁板表面處理，決不能用陽極氧化。
